Gerard has developed award-winning communication strategies for some of Queensland’s largest organisations including QIC, Bovis Lend Lease, Boral, the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and Troon Golf.
Gerard’s political understanding, issues management ability and strategic focus have made him a respected advisor to government clients including the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Department of Public Works, the Whitsunday Shire Council, the Mackay Shire Council and the Maroochy Shire Council.

Key Achievements
Communication Strategy Development
- Developed and implemented a comprehensive communication strategy for QIC, Australia’s fourth largest wholesale funds manager with more than $70 billion in funds under management. The strategy has successfully positioned QIC as one of the leading financial organisations in Australia.
- Developed branding and communication strategies for the Maroochydore City Centre on behalf of Maroochy Shire Council to position as the social and economic centre of theSunshine Coast.
Media Relations
- Managed all media relations for Troon Golf, the world’s leading golf course management company, since 2002 generating more than $2 million in equivalent advertising value each year.
- Gerard won a PRIA award for his work on the launch of FuelWatch (now MotorMouth) a website that provides a daily ‘snap shot’ of fuel prices across Australia. Gerard was responsible for establishing strategic alliances with prominent media outlets across Australia including News Limited, Channel Seven and the Austereo Network.
- Trained numerous executives from private sector organisations in media relations and crisis management.
Community Engagement
- A licensed trainer with the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) providing certified training in community engagement
- Developed a comprehensive Stakeholder & Community Engagement Framework for TransLink
- Developed and implemented a comprehensive community engagement strategy for the $50 million Whitsunday Wastewater Project
- Developed the community engagement campaign for the $34 million Mackay Convention Precinct
Financial and Investor Relations
- Manage all media relations for QIC since 2002, strengthening relationships with key journalists and further raising the national profile of the organisation
- Launched Australia’s largest early-stage venture capital fund – the A$200 Southern Cross Fund on behalf of Southern Cross Venture Partners
- Implemented a comprehensive media relations and investment industry campaign for Peptech Ltd – an ASX-listed Australian biotechnology company. For the twelve months that BBS worked with Peptech it was named by the Australian Financial Review as the best performing stock on the ASX for the financial year
- Worked on media relations for the IPO for City Pacific Limited – subsequently named by the Sunday Mail as one of the top two IPOs for the year
Branding and Corporate Imagery
- Develop a new brand and tagline for Maroochydore City Centre the “Natural Capital of the Sunshine Coast on behalf of Maroochy Shire Council
- Developed new corporate imagery and branding for QIC, including new logo, tag line and relevant marketing collateral
- Managed the branding and corporate imagery for the $50 million Whitsunday Wastewater Project
